Happiness Practice - March 23, 2018
[This is a post written to catch up blog posts with historical posts before I set up the blog! I'll also be adding tags so it's easier to find old subjects.]
What's making you happy this week?
I've started playing the Sims again, and man do I love that game. I try not to think too hard about how many hours I've played it for in total, because I could probably have another degree instead, but I have enjoyed it for almost two decades now, and the latest iteration is pretty fun. I'm not sure if it's the linear relationship between work & achievement (bad things don't really happen to Sims, unless you want them to), or just the weirdly rewarding fun of micromanaging every detail, but I keep coming back to it, and it's been making me pretty happy the past few weeks!
The other thing making me happy this week is NPR Music's coverage of SXSW. The Austin 100, intro, and wrap-up shows are all great this year, but in particular I love the late night dispatches, where the team just stands together in a random spot (often interrupted by traffic, a passing musician, and one time some dude wearing a cloak - not a cape!) and talks about cool things they've seen and done that day. I'd love to go to SXSW someday and get to see all kinds of awesome acts, eat tacos, and get hopelessly sick, but for now it's fun to listen to a team of people I really like enjoy themselves.
And how about you?
