Happiness Practice - April 27, 2018

What's making you happy this week? I've been listening to The Habitat, a new podcast from Gimlet about a simulated mission to Mars. It's non-fiction and about a real experiment, and it's completely captivating. There's lots of interesting stuff about potential minutiae of living in space and a lot of interpersonal relationships and scenarios. Every minute of it has drawn my attention. And their credits are over Space Oddity every week! If you're at all interested in Mars, space travel, or just social experiments, I would definitely suggest you give it a listen. The other thing making me happy this week is just this glorious sunshine! It's so nice out and I'm glad to have the chance to get out into the nice weather. I hope that wherever you are, you can enjoy the warmth of the sun on your face for a few minutes too. And now, what about you?

It's time for what's making us happy this week! I've been reading a fair bit of Ann Leckie's work over the past little while; I read Provenance a couple of weeks ago and just finished Ancillary Sword on the weekend. She writes really interesting, inventive sci fi, and I have really enjoyed her work. The protagonist of the Imperial Radch Trilogy, of which Ancillary Sword is the second book, is an AI with a lot of interesting takes on humanity, and it's a unique perspective for the books. I would definitely recommend checking them out! The other thing making me happy this week is this Japanese pressure cooker curry, which I made for dinner on Wednesday. It was really, really good and I'm sad I'm out of leftovers already! Now, what's making you happy this week?

What's making you happy this week? I've been watching iZombie since it started four years ago, and it's honestly one of my favourite shows right now. It's by Rob Thomas, who did Veronica Mars, and it's just so smart and funny and entertaining that I look forward to it every week. The cast is excellent and has amazing chemistry, Rose McIver is unbelievably good and basically gets to play an entire new person every week, and David Anders does such an amazing job as the villain that I kind of love him even though he's a monster. It's on the CW, which means that all the back episodes are on Netflix, and new episodes post the day after they air. I've been looking forward to watching the new episode tonight all week! Janelle MonĂ¡e has been putting out new, awesome music lately, and this week I fi…

What's making you happy this week? Last night, courtesy of Adam, I played a team take on Fog of Love which was super fun! It's a board game about a relationship (SU&SD reviewed it and that was also a fun thing to watch!) and it was an absolute blast. The actual mechanics of the game are really clever and interesting, and we were fortunate to draw a number of scenes that led to maximum hilarity. Playing it as a team was really fun, too, leading Matt and I to occasionally disagree about who "we" were and who "we" thought our partner was. It was a really fun game and I'd like to play it again for sure! Another thing that's making me happy this week is Forth Wanderers, who I first heard on this week's All Songs Considered (annnoyingly I can't find a link directly to that song, T…
