Happiness Practice - May 11, 2018
What's making you happy this week?
Neither of my items this week made me *happy*, exactly, but both of them are really interesting pieces that I enjoyed interacting with and that I am still thinking about. They're not cheery pieces at all, but I'm still glad I got to to engage with them!
First up is Leigh Alexander's short story, "The Future We Wanted". It plays off a variety of themes - AI, emotional labour, changing relationships, lots more - and it's very, very good. In general I really like her work and I'm excited that she's started posting short fiction relatively frequently. If you have a few minutes today, you should give it a read!
The other thing I've been enjoying this week is a video game AND a board game called This War of Mine. It makes you play as a group of civilians trapped in a war-torn city, just trying to stay alive while nothing is normal. It's grueling, and very hard, and a very good reminder of just how fortunate I am. This is not a joyful piece of media, but it's interesting and thoughtful and I am enjoying the experience I am having with it.
Now, what about you? What's making you happy this week, or at least, what are you enjoying?
