Practicing Happiness - December 21, 2018

It's time for what's making us happy this week!

First up is something folks who don't own uteruses probably won't be all that interested in, and some folks who do won't either, but that's okay, you can skip ahead if you like! "Happy" isn't really the word for how my menstrual cup makes me feel, but it has definitely made my uterus owning life easier. I have a Diva Cup that I've been using for a few years already, and GOD it's the best period product I have ever used. It can go 12 hours without being reset, which makes it great for travelling, and leaks are much, much rarer than they used to be. They're also fairly cost-effective and cut down hugely on packaging and waste - I can't remember the last time I bought a box of tampons, and combined with a couple of pairs of THINX underwear I can get through my entire cycle without putting anything at all in the garbage. I know I was really nervous about trying one until I talked to a friend who used one, so I wanted to talk a bit about how much I like mine and reassure anyone who might be curious - and if you have any questions, please feel free to message me! And of course, no pressure at all - they're not for everyone and that's fine too. Menstruation is always annoying and uncomfortable, so whatever you can do to get through it a little bit more easily, I support you!

Now, on a totally different note, I know I talked about the Netflix Salt Fat Acid Heat special a little while ago, but I enjoyed it so much that I sought out the book that's it's based on, and oh my goodness it's truly excellent. I took it out from the library, and I was only about 50 pages in when I realized I was going to have to buy it so I can cook every single thing in it. I've only made two recipes so far, but they're both unbelievably delicious, and I'm excited to try many, many more. It's also just a really good textbook about cooking, and while I consider myself a fairly good cook, I'm definitely learning and finding ways to improve all of my dishes. If you liked the special, consider giving it a look!

And now, what about you? What's making you happy this week?
